Abstract2026-10-06 23:34:51Abstract to shut down Abstract Chain on Dec. 15, 2026, urges users to move assets before deadlineEthereum layer-2 network Abstract said it will wind down Abstract Chain after nearly three years of operation, with onchain services scheduled to stop on Dec. 15, 2026. Users have been told to move assets to other chains before that date through the Migration Hub or the native bridge, which the team said may take about three hours to complete. Abstract warned that assets left unmigrated after the deadline will no longer be accessible. In its statement, the project said the ecosystem had posted strong growth over the past 18 months. It said Portal became a product discovery and distribution layer onchain, while Abstract Global Wallet, or AGW, grew into one of the more widely adopted smart contract wallets in crypto. The team added that more than 144 applications had been deployed on the network, with global brands including Red Bull Racing and Disney participating, helping bring in more than 400,000 users. Abstract said the decision followed a reassessment of its single-chain strategy focused on consumer crypto. According to the team, growth was constrained by a limited DeFi ecosystem, insufficient onchain liquidity, limited institutional participation and a smaller budget than rivals. It said the past 12 months were spent searching for a new product-market fit, but maintaining a chain that was operationally unsustainable and lacked scalable growth was no longer the best use of resources.20
